Oct 2, 2024 11:39 PM

12:12 PM EDT, 09/30/2024 (MT Newswires) -- General Motors' ( GM ) Cruise unit will pay a penalty of $1.5 million as part of a consent order with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration over allegedly incomplete reports for crashes involving automated driving systems, the regulator said Monday.

The NHTSA noted the failure of two of the reports to disclose the post-crash details of an October 2023 incident involving a Cruise self-driving vehicle that dragged a pedestrian about 20 feet before completely stopping.

The regulator also ordered the unit to submit a corrective action plan on how it will improve its compliance with crash reporting.

Cruise didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.

Shares of General Motors ( GM ) were down 3.7% in recent Monday trading.
