09:27 AM EDT, 06/25/2024 (MT Newswires) -- General Motors' ( GM ) GM Defense unit said Tuesday it's providing commercial battery electric technology to back projects at the University of Texas at Arlington's Pulsed Power and Energy Laboratory and Naval Surface Warfare Center Philadelphia Division.
The projects are funded by the US Defense Department, the company said.
Financial details weren't provided.
The Pulsed Power and Energy Laboratory is testing the technology to understand the capabilities of commercial automotive batteries under dynamic discharge and charge scenarios, GM Defense said.
The project will provide options for energy storage for future use in military platforms, the company said, adding it's using GM's Ultium battery system for testing.
