08:04 AM EDT, 06/07/2024 (MT Newswires) -- General Motors ( GM ) is increasingly using the Costco Auto Program to sell its electric vehicles, CNBC reported Friday, citing its interview with GM North America President Marissa West.
The Costco Auto Program acts as a facilitator for franchised dealers and automakers, offering Costco (COST) members special pricing on vehicles through discounts and incentives. The program has facilitated the sale of over 500,000 vehicles annually over the past five years, CNBC reported.
The increase in the use of the Costco Auto Program comes as the automaker expands its EV portfolio from niche vehicles to mass market segments with vehicles such as the Chevrolet Equinox and Blazer EVs, the report said.
In an interview with CNBC, West said EVs are a "huge opportunity" for GM to reach Costco's over 50 million members in the US.
GM is reportedly offering Costco members a $1,000 incentive 'certificate' on the Equinox, Blazer, and Cadillac Lyriq EVs through July, CNBC said.
