04:17 PM EDT, 03/18/2025 (MT Newswires) -- General Motors ( GM ) expanded its partnership with Nvidia ( NVDA ) to use artificial intelligence systems aimed at optimizing plant operations, with plans to accelerate the development of autonomous vehicles.
GM has been using Nvidia's ( NVDA ) chips to train AI models in areas including simulation and validation. The expanded collaboration now includes modernizing automotive plant design and operations.
GM will leverage Nvidia's ( NVDA ) technology for future advanced driver-assistance systems, the companies said Tuesday. Nvidia's ( NVDA ) Drive AGX platform will help develop and deploy safe autonomous vehicles at scale, they said.
"AI not only optimizes manufacturing processes and accelerates virtual testing but also helps us build smarter vehicles while empowering our workforce to focus on craftsmanship," GM Chief Executive Mary Barra said in a joint statement with Nvidia ( NVDA ).
Shares of GM closed 0.7% lower on Tuesday, while Nvidia's ( NVDA ) dropped 3.4% amid a broader market selloff.
"The era of physical AI is here, and together with GM, we're transforming transportation, from vehicles to the factories where they're made," Nvidia ( NVDA ) CEO Jensen Huang said.
GM will use Nvidia's ( NVDA ) Omniverse platform to create digital replicas of assembly lines, allowing for virtual testing and production simulations. It will train robotics platforms that are already in use for operations such as precision welding and material handling to improve safety and efficiency.
