05:58 AM EST, 11/12/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google ( GOOG ) said Wednesday it has filed a lawsuit against a cyber-criminal group engaged in what it described as a massive phishing operation using text messages.

The company said "bad actors" are building online kits to generate and deploy mass text messaging campaigns designed to deceive millions of people in 120 countries into giving up their financial information.

Google ( GOOG ) described the lawsuit as part of a strategy, along with working to pass legislation in the US Congress, to fight the groups, which news reports linked to China.

"Today, we're fighting back," Google ( GOOG ) general counsel Halimah DeLaine Prado. "We are filing litigation to dismantle 'Lighthouse,' a massive Phishing-as-a-Service operation, and we're also endorsing pivotal bipartisan bills in the US Congress to protect everyone from these attacks."
