Google Wins Injunction in UK Over YouTube Block in Russia
Jan 22, 2025 9:34 AM

12:10 PM EST, 01/22/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Alphabet's (GOOG) Google ( GOOG ) won an injunction from the High Court in London to prevent the enforcement of certain judgments by the Russian courts on the closure of various Google ( GOOG ) and YouTube ( GOOG ) accounts, a court filing showed Wednesday.

Google ( GOOG ) was granted an anti-enforcement injunction on the grounds that Google ( GOOG ) and YouTube's ( GOOG ) terms and conditions required disputes to be brought to an English court, Justice Andrew Henshaw said in the ruling.

"The Russian proceedings are alleged to have been commenced and pursued in breach of London arbitration or exclusive English jurisdiction agreements," Henshaw said.

Google Russia's liquidator had estimated the total of some of the penalties faced by Google ( GOOG ) amounted to roughly 20 trillion times the global gross domestic product, the filing showed.

Alphabet didn't immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
