Government likely to bring fake GST claims under PMLA
Jun 14, 2019 1:13 PM

The revenue department is likely to bring fake Goods and Services Tax (GST) claims under the ambit of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), sources privy to the developments told CNBC-TV18.

According to multiple people familiar with the development, the revenue department is mulling to notify certain GST offences as predicate offence after DG GST Intelligence detected Rs 378 crore of GST evasion in April 2019.

However, a nod from GST Council is important to bring amendments in PMLA and GST acts, said people familiar with the matter. The PMLA was enacted in 2002 and implemented from 2005.
