Government sets up panel for resolving stressed power assets

The government on Sunday decided to set up a high-level empowered panel to resolve issues plaguing the power sector and revive stressed assets.

The committee will be headed by cabinet secretary PK Sinha. The committee will also have representatives from the ministries of railways, finance, power, coal and the financial institutions having major exposure to the power sector.

The committee will take a look into various issues in coal-based power plants and will look into maximising the efficiency of investment including changes required to be made in the fuel allocation policy, regulatory framework, mechanisms to facilitate the sale of power.
