11:19 AM EDT, 10/06/2025 (MT Newswires) -- GreenFirst Forest Products ( ICLTF ) , which last week said it was curtailing saw mill operations at some operations, Monday said it is preparing to resume operations at its Kapuskasing, Hearst and Cochrane mills this week.
The decision change was prompted by reports that the Federal and Ontario governments have reached funding agreements to support Kap paper's Kapuskasing paper mill, averting a planned closure. Kap Paper last week said it was starting an orderly idling of operations at its Kapuskasing paper mil. Kap is GreenFirst's primary customer for wood by-products
"We thank both the Government of Canada and the Province of Ontario for their constructive engagement and support for the forestry sector," said Joel Fournier, GreenFirst chief executive officer.
"This collaboration is essential to sustaining jobs, strengthening communities, and building a long-term future for the regional forest economy. While important details are still being worked out, these positive developments give us the confidence to prepare for a restart of our sawmill operations."
GreenFirst shares are down $0.03, to $2.39, on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
