07:58 AM EDT, 06/24/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Group 1 Automotive ( GPI ) said Monday that a cybersecurity breach at third-party software provider CDK Global has disrupted operations in the US.
The company said it has implemented cybersecurity responses to isolate its systems from CDK. Despite the outage, the car dealership network said US outlets are continuing operations using other mechanisms.
Group 1 said it has been told by CDK that it anticipates restoration of services within "several days and not weeks." Group 1 added it has not been able to ascertain whether the incident will have a market impact.
More than 15,000 car dealerships across the US and Canada use CDK software, according to media reports, and it is not known how many were disrupted by last week's cyberattacks. The software supports daily operations, such as facilitating auto sales, financing, insurance and repairs.
Major automakers including Ford, BMW and Stellantis told the Associated Press Friday that the CDK disruption had impacted some operations at their dealers, but sales operations were continuing, according to the news organization.
