The outlay from the government in the water segment has been substantial, said Rajneesh Chopra, Global Head-Business Development at VA Tech Wabag on Thursday. The government expects to spend about Rs 27,000 crore in the current financial year on the ‘Har Ghar Nal Se Jal’ initiative. One of the beneficiaries of this plan is VA Tech Wabag.
Speaking to CNBC-TV18, Chopra said, “This outlay of Rs 3.5 lakh crore has to be spent in ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ over a period of 3-5 years. Today, house connections being targeted but this will lead to an increase in demand for water and we have to supply safe drinking water.”
According to him, the government’s target is 55 litre of water per day per person. “We will be one of the major front-runners as far as treatment technology and desalination is concerned in the whole mission,” said Chopra.
Wabag has already been successful in some of the contracts of the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), he said.
“This is a model which is going to work to rejuvenate all the rivers across the country. Therefore, once the budget is there we will see a lot of potential for wastewater treatment also,” he said.
