HCA Healthcare Q3 Earnings, Revenue Rise; 2024 Guidance Updated; Shares Fall Pre-Bell

08:17 AM EDT, 10/25/2024 (MT Newswires) -- HCA Healthcare ( HCA ) reported Q3 earnings Friday of $4.88 per diluted share, up from $3.91 a year earlier.

Analysts polled by Capital IQ expected $4.98.

Revenue for the quarter ended Sept. 30 was $17.49 billion, up from $16.21 billion a year earlier.

Analysts surveyed by Capital IQ expected $17.53 billion.

Because of the impact of recent hurricanes, the company said it now expects 2024 earnings and revenue to be in the lower half of its guidance ranges of $21.60 to $22.80 in diluted EPS on revenue of $69.75 billion to $71.75 billion. Analysts polled by Capital IQ expect EPS of $22.72 on $70.91 billion in revenue.

For Q4, the company said it expects additional expenses and loss of revenue due to recent hurricanes of about $200 million to $300 million, or $0.60 to $0.90 per diluted share.

For 2025, the company said it expects earnings per share growth to be near, or slightly above, the upper end of its long-term growth ranges.

HCA shares fell 9% in recent premarket activity.
