11:56 AM EDT, 04/26/2024 (MT Newswires) -- The Department of Homeland Security said Friday it was establishing an Artificial Intelligence Safety and Security Board to offer guidance on the "development and deployment of AI technology in our nation's critical infrastructure."
The board will include top technology company executives, including Nvidia's ( NVDA ) Jensen Huang, Microsoft's ( MSFT ) Satya Nadella, Alphabet's (GOOG) Sundar Pichai, and OpenAI's Sam Altman.
"Artificial Intelligence is a transformative technology that can advance our national interests in unprecedented ways," Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas said. "At the same time, it presents real risks -- risks that we can mitigate by adopting best practices and taking other studied, concrete actions."
The board is set to convene for its inaugural meeting in May and will subsequently meet quarterly, the Department of Homeland Security said.
