07:12 AM EDT, 05/15/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Honda Motor ( HMC ) said Wednesday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with International Business Machines ( IBM ) to collaborate on the long-term joint research and development of next-generation computing technologies required to overcome challenges faced by future software-defined vehicles, or SDVs.

Honda ( HMC ) said both companies expect that SDVs will "increase the design complexity, processing performance, and corresponding power consumption of semiconductors compared to conventional mobility products" and that the collaboration aims to address these challenges.
