07:21 AM EDT, 07/11/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Honeywell International ( HON ) did not violate workplace anti-discrimination laws when it fired Charles Vavra after he refused to complete a mandatory online unconscious bias training, according to a court ruling Wednesday.
The 7th US Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed a district court's decision favoring Honeywell ( HON ) as it ruled that "Vavra's retaliation claims are meritless."
Vavra had alleged that he was fired in retaliation for his opposition to an online unconscious bias training and complaints about an email from the head of his business unit which he found offensive, according to the court document.
The training, conducted by Honeywell's ( HON ) Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion office required all Honeywell ( HON ) employees to complete the training by Feb. 25, 2021.
The court said Vavra "failed to establish a causal connection between those objections and his termination."
