The next era of smartphones is unfolding in front of us, right here at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 in Barcelona. Now if you have been following the latest tech dope, foldable phones are the next big thing, or at least that’s handset makers are hoping for.

While Samsung decided to debut the Galaxy Fold just a few days before MWC, Huawei has already its contender in the foldable smartphone game. That’s right! The company took the stage at MWC 2019 to unveil its first foldable phone – the Huawei Mate X. The device can be unfolded to convert it into a tablet adding some serious display real estate.

Globally, Huawei Mate X has been priced at EUR 2,299, which translates to a whopping Rs 200,000 approximately for the 8GB RAM and 512GB storage variant. Guess it’s time we stop throwing shade Apple, you guys!

The smartphone will go on sale in mid-2019. Let’s jump right into the specs, the Mate X features two FullView Display panels in 6.6-inch and 6.38-inch sizes but when unfolded has an 8-inch wraparound OLED display.

The company took three years to perfect the hinge design and are calling it the Falcon Wing design. Also, there is no display notch on this device, cheers to that.

Where is the camera, you ask? Well even if you didn’t, here goes. Huawei Mate X sports a two-in-one front and rear camera setup that is powered by Leica optics. The lenses include a 40 MP wide-angle lens, 16 MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and an 8 MP telephoto sensor. This device packs in a 4,500mAh battery and is powered by Huawei’s in-house Kirin 980 processor coupled with 8GB RAM.

Will foldable phones help revive sales or not, we have to wait and watch. Analysts like me have only gotten to see not touch these foldable devices so to be frank, I don’t know what it feels like to fold and unfold a smartphone. If you are as fidgety as then, I hope these devices can endure some serious wear and tear. At this point, the future looks expensive.
