05:37 PM EDT, 05/29/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Hudbay Minerals ( HBM ) after trade Thursday said it is actively responding to the wildfire situation in northern Manitoba and is working closely with local authorities to ensure the safety of its employees.

The company said it is complying with the regional evacuation order that includes Flin Flon and nearby areas. Only essential personnel authorized by emergency services will remain in Flin Flon to support emergency activities.

Although Hudbay no longer conducts active mining operations in Flin Flon following the closure of the 777 mine in 2022, it still has care and maintenance operations there, according to the statement.

Hudbay's operations in Snow Lake, located about 200 kilometers east of Flin Flon, remain active. However, production may be temporarily reduced because many employees live in Flin Flon, the company said, adding that exploration activities in both the Flin Flon and Snow Lake regions have been paused while fire mitigation efforts are underway.
