08:49 AM EDT, 03/24/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Huntington Ingalls Industries ( HII ) said Monday its mission technologies division has been chosen to develop an open-architecture high-energy laser weapon system for the US Army's Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

The company said it will develop and test a prototype weapon to acquire, track, and destroy several types of unmanned aerial drones from both fixed defensive positions and from US Army vehicles.

In addition to the prototype, the company said it will provide the data for relevant subsystems and components.
