Private banking major ICICI Bank is likely to appoint a former bureaucrat as the bank's chairman, at a time when the bank is in the middle of a controversy involving Chanda Kochhar, the chief executive and managing director of the bank, reported Business Standard.
The bank's board is likely to discuss the appointment of a new chairman on Friday from the shortlist of four former IAS officers who have worked with the finance ministry, the report said, adding that the bank will soon send the shortlist to the central bank for clearance.
"The board is of the view that the bank needs a seasoned bureaucrat from the Indian Administrative Service who is methodological, has a good grasp over economy-related issues and had served in a senior position in the Ministry of Finance," the paper quoted sources as saying.
The board, according to the daily, has considered Shantikanta Das, former revenue secretary; DK Mittal, former financial services secretary and Tapan Ray, former corporate affairs secretary.
However, there is no report on whether the shortlisted candidates have approved the offer.
