Ikea India to open Navi Mumbai store tomorrow; to increase locally sourced products
Dec 17, 2020 8:26 AM

Swedish iconic home solutions maker Ikea is all set to open its new store in Navi Mumbai tomorrow. This is their second store to open in India after Hyderabad.

Speaking exclusively to CNBC-TV18, Jesper Brodin, CEO, Ingka Group said that they are constantly reviewing opportunities in India.

“We are constantly reviewing the opportunities. For us serving many people, low price is important, but also the way that we can do sourcing in the industry in a sustainable way both for people and planet. Our demand is also quite high which is good for the industry to develop not only locally but from an international perspective. So we are quite optimistic about the future. I am very hopeful that we will be able to increase the scale of production in India,” he said.

Brodin said that about 20 percent of what Ikea sells in India is sourced locally and that it will only grow going forward. He believes that e-commerce is going to stay and grow but physical presence is important.

On the Navi Mumbai store, he said that it is a long dream that has come true.
