05:53 AM EDT, 09/03/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Illumina ( ILMN ) said Tuesday that the European Court of Justice has ruled that the European Commission did not have jurisdiction over its acquisition of GRAIL (GRAL), nullifying an earlier fine of 432 million euros ($476.9 million).

"Today's judgment confirms Illumina's ( ILMN ) longstanding view that the European Commission exceeded its authority by asserting jurisdiction over this merger," Illumina ( ILMN ) said. US regulators dismissed a similar case against the company in August, after Illumina's ( ILMN ) spinoff of GRAIL, according to the statement.

Illumina ( ILMN ) said it completed its spin-off of GRAIL in June and maintains a 14.5% stake in the company.
