09:06 AM EDT, 05/22/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Imperial Oil ( IMO ) said Wednesday its Grand Rapids oil sands project has initiated production at the Cold Lake operating site through solvent-assisted, steam-assisted gravity drainage technology.

The technology is anticipated to lower greenhouse gas emissions intensity by up to 40%, the company added.

The production will continue to grow over the next few months to produce 15,000 gross barrels per day later in 2024, Imperial said.
