SUMMARY

HCL founder and chairman Shiv Nadar has topped the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2019, released on Monday, with the highest contribution of Rs 826 crore between April 2018 and March 2019. The list, compiled by the EdelGive Foundation and Hurun Research Institute, ranked individuals from India who donated Rs 5 crore and above between April 1, 2018 and March 31, 2019. These are the ten most charitable Indians:

1. Shiv Nadar, founder and chairman of HCL Technologies, emerged as the most charitable India after making a contribution of Rs 826 crore.

2. Azim Premji, chairman, Wipro Ltd., took second spot with a contribution of Rs 453 crore.

3. Mukesh Ambani, chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries contributed Rs 402 crore for various causes. Disclosure: RIL, the promoter of Reliance Jio, also controls Network18, the parent company of CNBCTV18.com.

4: Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani took fourth spot in the list after contributing Rs 204 crore.

5. Ajay Piramal and family, headed by Ajay Piramal, contributed Rs 200 crore to various causes.

6: Rohini Nilekani, the wife of Nandan Nilekani, is sixth in the list having contributed Rs 142 crore.

7: Rahul Bajaj, chairman of Bajaj Auto Ltd., donated Rs 131 crore for various causes to take seventh spot in the list. (Reuters/Vijay Mathur)

8: Cyrus S. Poonawalla, chairman of Poonawalla Group, is eighth in the list with contributions worth Rs 117 crore.

9: Vedanta chairman Anil Agarwal donated Rs 113 crore to take the ninth spot.

10. Gautam Adani, founder and chairman of Adani Group, contributed Rs 84 crore and made the list in tenth spot.
