Ajay Singh, chairman of SpiceJet on Monday said India has the potential to become the aviation superpower, but we are not doing enough.

Speaking at the Rising India Summit 2019, Singh asked the government to introduce tax reforms in the aviation sector, which is already grappling with challenges from various quarters.

He said, "There is an aviation revolution happening in this country...It's been a terrific ride for the aviation space."

According to Singh, if airlines in India get equal opportunity, they can beat their rivals from the Middle East, "I dare say we would beat the likes of Emirates and Qatar, all we need is a level playing field given to airlines, unfortunately, that is not happening."

"Aviation needs a level playing field and there needs to be a political step for this. Aviation is a growing economy. It's a shame that we can't give a level playing field to aviation. Low-cost airlines will not lose money. We will not lose if there is a level playing field. The demand is strong. We need to get our taxes down and stop shipping planes outsides for maintenance. We should be providing pilots to the world. We can do much more on aviation," Sing said.

Talking about bringing Air Turbine Fuel (ATF) under Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime, Singh said some state governments are not supportive of the proposal. Currently, AFT prices vary from state to state.
