Largest Indian carrier IndiGo is in the process of seeking approvals to fly to China, the airline said amid reports that approvals have already been granted by Chinese aviation regulator.

"At this stage, we are in the process of securing the necessary approvals to operate into China, and as soon as we receive all the requisite permissions from the governments to operate, we will inform our key stakeholders accordingly," the airline said.

The airline has plans to start direct flights from Delhi to Chengdu and Guangzhou from Kolkata. The airline had said in February that it is working on starting daily flights to China by the end of the year.

"With our existing fleet and the new A321neo aircraft, IndiGo will have the capability to reach cities in China, Middle East and South East Asia," IndiGo said.

With a market share of 46.9 percent as of March, the airline stands with a fleet of 222 planes and operates to 70 destinations including 17 overseas.

"We are evaluating all such opportunities to expand our network and provide many more choices to our customers," the airline added.
