01:30 PM EDT, 10/15/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Intel ( INTC ) and AMD (AMD) on Tuesday announced the creation of an advisory group to advance the x86 computing architecture.

The chipmakers said they would be joined by founding members Broadcom ( AVGO ) , Dell (DELL), Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google ( GOOG ), HP (HPQ), Hewlett Packard Enterprise ( HPE ) , Lenovo, Meta (META), Microsoft ( MSFT ) , Oracle (ORCL), and IBM's ( IBM ) Red Hat in identifying new ways to expand the x86 ecosystem by enabling compatibility across platforms.

Linus Torvalds, the inventor of the Linux kernel, and Tim Sweeney, the chief executive of Fortnite maker Epic Games, will also be a part of the advisory board, Intel ( INTC ) and AMD said in a statement.
