07:13 AM EDT, 10/15/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Intel ( INTC ) will launch "Crescent Island," a data-center AI GPU designed for energy-efficient inference workloads next year, Intel ( INTC ) chief technology officer Sachin Katti said at the Open Compute Summit on Tuesday.
The new chip will feature 160 gigabytes of non-HBM onboard memory using a design lineage from Intel's ( INTC ) consumer GPUs, as the company seeks a lower cost-per-performance path into AI infrastructure, the executive said.
Intel ( INTC ) plans to release new data-center AI chips on a yearly basis rather than trying to cover each workload, with Crescent Island focusing on "performance per dollar" for inference, he said.
The company is promoting an open, modular approach, allowing customers to mix and match components from multiple vendors in their AI stacks, Katti said.
Shares of Intel ( INTC ) were up by over 1.8% in recent Wednesday premarket activity.
