Intel Wins Long-Standing Antitrust Case in EU
Nov 2, 2024 8:32 PM

08:20 AM EDT, 10/24/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Intel ( INTC ) won a long-standing legal battle in Europe after the EU Court of Justice upheld an earlier decision that reversed a fine and dismissed antitrust charges against the company, according to a statement Thursday from the court.

The European Commision imposed a fine of 1.06 billion euros ($1.14 billion) on Intel ( INTC ) in May 2009 and accused the company of abusing its "dominant" position in the microprocessor market by granting loyalty rebates to certain customers. In 2022, the General Court annulled the fine and this decision was subsequently appealed by the European Commission, according to the statement.

"The Court of Justice dismisses the Commission's appeal, thereby upholding the judgment of the General Court," the top EU court said, rejecting all grounds of appeal raised by the Commission.

A spokesperson from Intel ( INTC ) told MT Newswires that the company is "pleased with the judgment."
