12:48 PM EDT, 05/02/2024 (MT Newswires) -- InterDigital (IDCC) said Thursday that it has been awarded an injunction against Lenovo by a German court, which ruled that Lenovo "infringes InterDigital's patent-in-suit covering 4G and 5G devices."
The Regional Court in Munich said that InterDigital "has acted in a FRAND [fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory] manner at all times, and that Lenovo is an unwilling licensee who has not acted in line with widely recognized FRAND principles," according to InterDigital.
This first-instance ruling can be appealed, InterDigital said.
A Lenovo spokesperson told MT Newswires that the company intends to appeal.
"We respect the Munich Court's decision but do not agree with it given our belief that [InterDigital] has violated its own legal obligations to license its technology on Fair, Reasonable and Non-Discriminatory [FRAND] terms to either Lenovo or our third-party suppliers," the spokesperson said in an email to MT Newswires.
InterDigital's "global patent licensing behaviors and fees disadvantage German customers, especially consumers by reducing access to the latest technologies and driving up prices for tech products," the Lenovo spokesperson added.
InterDigital shares were rising nearly 6% in recent trading.
