05:10 PM EDT, 08/19/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Interfor ( IFSPF ) on Monday said it is indefinitely curtailing lumber mills in Georgia and South Carolina because of weak market conditions.
The forest-products company said the mills in Meldrim, Georgia, and Summerville, South Carolina, will cease taking lumber deliveries immediately and operations will be completely wound down by the end of September. The 180 employees of the two sites will be offered positions elsewhere, if possible it said.
The company said the curtailments were already accounted for in guidance released on Aug.8, but the indefinite closure may extend into 2025.
The two have a combined production capacity of 330-million board feet.
Interfor ( IFSPF ) shares closed up $0.11 to $16.79 on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
