10:20 AM EST, 01/30/2025 (MT Newswires) -- International Business Machines ( IBM ) and Telefonica's Telefonica Tech unit said Thursday they have partnered to develop security systems for future quantum computing threats.
They plan to integrate IBM's ( IBM ) quantum-safe technology with Telefonica Tech's expertise in managed and professional cybersecurity services, the companies said.
Planned solutions will help protect companies and public agencies from post-quantum security risks by using new cryptography standards set by the US National Institute of Standards and Technology, they added.
The deal also includes setting up a joint use case office focused on secure communications, adapting to new secure algorithms, and protecting critical environments, according to the companies.
IBM ( IBM ) has already deployed its infrastructure at Telefonica's Madrid headquarters, featuring an IBM LinuxONE system with end-to-end encryption and quantum-safe cryptography, along with IBM Storage and other advanced security tools, IBM ( IBM ) and Telefonica said.
Shares of IBM ( IBM ) were up more than 14% in recent trading.
