08:10 AM EST, 03/04/2025 (MT Newswires) -- IonQ ( IONQ ) said Tuesday it has set up a quantum networking system at the US Air Force Research Laboratory in Rome, New York.

The system, which utilizes trapped ion technology, is intended to aid AFRL's research into quantum computing and networking, the company said.

IonQ ( IONQ ) said the installation is part of its broader collaboration with the US government to advance quantum capabilities.

AFRL Deputy Director Michael Hayduk said the lab is assessing how quantum computing can be applied in fields such as security, materials science, and optimization.

The company's shares were down more than 3% in recent Tuesday premarket activity.
