IonQ's CEO Optimistic About Future, Despite Current Quantum Computing Limitations
Jan 10, 2025 6:13 AM

08:45 AM EST, 01/10/2025 (MT Newswires) -- IonQ's ( IONQ ) CEO Peter Chapman said Friday that its 2024 bookings and revenue are expected to be at the high end of its guidance and the company will be profitable by 2030, with sales approaching $1 billion.

Despite the current capacity and power limitations of classical computing hardware, Chapman said quantum computers can deliver near-term business value, including in artificial intelligence, "where we believe natively quantum AI will outperform classical AI."

Quantum computing stocks, including IonQ ( IONQ ), fell sharply on Wednesday following comments from Nvidia ( NVDA ) CEO Jensen Huang.

Huang said that "very useful quantum computers" could be 20 years away, suggesting that a 15-year timeline would be optimistic and 30 years could be too late.

IonQ ( IONQ ) shares rose by 0.6% in premarket trading on Friday.
