11:39 AM EDT, 04/09/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Iridium Communications ( IRDM ) said Tuesday it signed a five-year contract with L3Harris Technologies ( LHX ) for Iridium's satellite time and location service.

The company said it will provide the timing synchronization service to over three dozen L3Harris ( LHX )-operated communications network backbone nodes and a similar number of Federal Aviation Administration sites in the US.

L3Harris ( LHX ) owns and operates a private network for the FAA, Iridium said.

Iridium's service will remove dependencies on GPS as a main timing source, the company said.

Shares of Iridium were up 2.5% in recent trading on Tuesday.
