07:51 AM EDT, 09/27/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Meta Platforms' ( META ) Irish unit was fined by the Irish Data Protection Commission 91 million euros ($101.6 million) for violations of the General Data Protection Regulation following the investigation of Meta Ireland's inadvertent storage of social media user passwords in plaintext on its internal systems, the Irish Data Protection Commission said on Friday.

The commission's decision also includes a reprimand.

Meta did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
