Ivanhoe Posts Higher Q2 Copper Production at Kamoa-Kakula Mine in DRC
Jul 8, 2025 5:54 AM

08:20 AM EDT, 07/08/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Ivanhoe Mines ( IVPAF ) said Tuesday that copper production at the Kamoa-Kakula operation in the Democratic Republic of Congo increased 11% in the second quarter.

The mine's combined phase one, two and three production totaled 112,009 tonnes of copper in concentrate, rising from 100,812 tonnes. Phase 1 and 2 production slumped to 71,401 tonnes from 99,706 tonnes due to seismic activity at the Kakula mine in May, the company said. Phase 1 and 2 concentrators are operating at about 85% capacity, with 45% of feed coming from the western side of the Kakula mine. The company is continuing its work to dewater Kakula's eastern section.

"We expect to return to mining areas grading approximately 5% copper on the western side of Kakula towards the end of the year, which will drive a further improvement in operating results and efficiency," said Robert Friedland, Ivanhoe's founder and co-chairman. "Dewatering efforts of the Kakula mine are proceeding to plan, which will provide us access to assess additional high-grade ore from the affected workings that can be safely mined to feed the phase 1 and phase 2 concentrators."

Ivanhoe's share price dropped 2.5% on Monday to $10.16 on the TSX.
