DAKAR, May 20 (Reuters) - Ivanhoe Mines ( IVPAF ) has
suspended some mining operations at its Kakula underground
copper mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo after seismic
activity, it said on Tuesday.
The Canadian miner halted underground operations on Sunday
after a week of tremors. The company said that all employees
working underground were safely evacuated and the western
section of the mine was declared safe to resume operations.
The mine's two concentrators are operating at reduced
capacity, processing stockpiled ore. The adjacent Kamoa mine has
not been disrupted, Ivanhoe said.
The company is ramping up copper mining at the Kamoa-Kakula
complex. In Congo Ivanhoe also operates the Kipushi zinc-copper
mine.
