07:27 AM EDT, 04/08/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Japan has reportedly secured priority tariff negotiations with the United States following a phone call between President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, multiple media outlets reported Tuesday.
The talks aim to address tariffs imposed by the US, including a 24% tariff on Japanese imports and a 25% tariff on vehicles.
Following the call, Trump posted on Truth Social that the US has been treated "very poorly" by Japan on trade, citing disparities in automobile and agricultural access.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer will lead the US delegation, while Economic Revitalization Minister Ryosei Akazawa will head the Japanese side of the negotiations, media outlets reported.
