Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal and wife Anita Goyal stopped by immigration from leaving country
May 25, 2019 10:03 AM

Founder of Jet Airways, Naresh Goyal and his wife Anita Goyal were stopped from leaving the country by the immigration officials at the Mumbai airport, sources said.

It is learnt that Goyals were travelling for London via Dubai. From Mumbai, they were to board an Emirates flight EK 507, which was going to Dubai.

"They boarded the aircraft. The aircraft had left the taxiway. ATC called back the plane and then Naresh Goyal and his wife were asked to deplane the aircraft," one of the people aware of the development said.

Sources privy to the developments told CNBC-TV18 that ministry of corporate affairs (MCA) and Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) had issued a Look Out Circular (LOC) against Goyal and his wife based on which they were detained by the immigration department in Mumbai.

Due to pending investigations, the MCA and SFIO were suspecting that Goyals can leave the country and wanted to restrict their travel further.

As per sources, the couple was released yesterday after their documents were checked.

“Emirates is co-operating fully with the relevant authorities and we abide by the laws of the various countries we operate in," the carrier said in a statement.

Naresh Goyal, along with Anita Goyal, had resigned from the board of Jet Airways, which he founded 26 years ago, in March following a debt restructuring plan. He had also resigned as the airline chairman.
