07:14 AM EDT, 09/10/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Joby Aviation ( JOBY ) said Tuesday that it has submitted a letter of intent to initiate its air operator certificate application to the General Civil Aviation Authority to operate commercial air transport in the United Arab Emirates.

The company said it will follow a five-stage application process to develop a full complement of air taxi operating manuals, undergo inspections of its UAE-based facilities, and complete GCAA observation of pilot and aircraft mechanic training as well as flight operations.

This comes after the company signed agreements earlier this year to launch air taxi services in the Emirate of Dubai and to establish and scale air taxi services in Abu Dhabi.
