06:38 AM EDT, 06/04/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Johnson & Johnson ( JNJ ) was ordered by a jury Monday to pay an Oregon woman $260 million after she developed mesothelioma allegedly caused by inhaling the company's talc powder, Reuters reported.
The Portland jury's award includes $60 million in compensatory damages and $200 million in punitive damages, the news agency said.
Reuters quoted a Johnson & Johnson ( JNJ ) lawyer as saying the company would appeal the verdict, which comes as the company seeks a $6.48 billion settlement of talc-related lawsuits.
Johnson & Johnson ( JNJ ) did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
