Judge Blocks California Plaintiffs' Bid to Intervene in New York Cases Against Microsoft, OpenAI
Apr 2, 2024 4:47 AM

07:24 AM EDT, 04/02/2024 (MT Newswires) -- A New York judge blocked a group of plaintiffs in California from intervening in cases against Microsoft ( MSFT ) and OpenAI over the companies' alleged illegal use of copyrighted content in developing the artificial intelligence model behind ChatGPT, according to a Monday court document.

US District Judge Sidney Stein said the plaintiffs in California seek to dismiss the cases brought against OpenAI and Microsoft ( MSFT ) in a New York court or move them to California, where related cases against the companies were filed earlier. The California plaintiffs want to avoid contradictory rulings, but the judge said they "have not met the requirements" to intervene in the New York cases.

Microsoft ( MSFT ) an OpenAI did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comments.
