07:22 PM EDT, 06/10/2026 (MT Newswires) -- A federal judge declined to immediately block a proposed $1.8 billion fund for alleged political "weaponization" victims after the Trump administration said it does not plan to move forward with the program, Bloomberg reported Wednesday.
US District Judge Richard Leon questioned why the Justice Department would not formally withdraw the fund proposal but agreed the dispute may be largely moot given government assurances. The case remains active.
Leon warned the administration not to reverse its position, telling government lawyers, "Don't play possum with this court."
The fund has faced criticism from both Democrats and some Republicans since it was unveiled as part of a settlement tied to President Donald Trump's lawsuit against the IRS.
