01:55 PM EDT, 06/25/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Kellanova ( K ) expects its acquisition by Mars to close toward the end of the year following the European Commission's announcement of an in-depth investigation into the merger.

The companies "remain optimistic that this investigation will be positively resolved and that antitrust approval from the European Commission will be obtained," Kellanova ( K ) said Wednesday in a regulatory filing.

The transaction may lead to higher prices for consumers, the commission said Tuesday in a statement.

The commission has until Oct. 31 to issue a decision.

"The opening of an in-depth inquiry does not prejudge the outcome of the investigation," the commission said.
