11:45 AM EDT, 03/20/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Laboratory Corp of America ( LH ) said Wednesday it has launched a test to detect the presence of blood biomarker phosphorylated tau 217, or pTau217, to help diagnose Alzheimer's disease.
The company said physicians can order the standalone pTau217 test for clinical use, while biopharmaceutical companies can use it in research and clinical trials.
The pTau217 biomarker is crucial in diagnosing Alzheimer's and monitoring patients undergoing new Alzheimer's disease therapies, the company said.
Alzheimer's is the most common form of dementia, with an estimated 6.7 million Americans currently living with the disease, according to the company.
