04:37 PM EDT, 05/28/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Leonardo DRS ( DRS ) late Tuesday said it received a new contract valued at roughly $26 million from the US Navy to provide software and hardware design, engineering and installation services for the AN/SPQ-9B radar system.
The radar system uses X-band and pulse Doppler radar to identify potential targets, particularly in ocean environments. The radar scans the horizon and air simultaneously and can detect surface targets and track low-flying, anti-ship cruise missiles or other aerial and surface threats, according to the company.
DRS, together with other contractors, has been working on the AN/SPQ-9B radar for roughly six years.
