01:42 PM EDT, 03/21/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Lifezone Metals ( LZM ) Chief Executive Chris Showalter said Thursday that the company got a license from the Tanzanian government to refine nickel, copper, and cobalt from its Kabanga nickel project in Kahama.
The Kabanga nickel project is in northwest Tanzania and the Kahama multi-metal processing facility is about 340 kilometers southwest of Kabanga. Lifezone Metals' ( LZM ) Tembo Nickel unit runs both Kabanga and Kahama, with the Tanzanian government owning a 16% stake in the company.
The company said its Hydromet technology enables local production of finished metals at Kabanga and Kahama. The technology offers an alternative to traditional smelting, unlocking nickel, copper, and cobalt with lower costs and emissions.
