Lithium Stocks Jump Pre-Bell After CATL Suspends Chinese Project

06:00 AM EDT, 08/11/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Lithium stocks were up pre-bell Monday after Contemporary Amperex Technology, or CATL, the world's largest battery maker for electric vehicles, suspended a major mining project in China.

The company said its license for a mine in Yichun in China's Jiangxi province expired Saturday, resulting in a production suspension at the site. CATL said it will resume production as soon as possible after receiving the required approval.

Piedmont Lithium ( PLL ) shares were up 9.2% in recent premarket activity Monday, while Sigma Lithium ( SGML ) surged 12%, Sociedad Quimica y Minera de Chile ( SQM ) gained 6.5%, Lithium Americas ( LAC ) added 9.3%, and Albemarle (ALB) rose 8.9%. Atlas Lithium ( ATLX ) advanced 3.6%, while Standard Lithium ( SLI ) gained 7.8%.
