Loblaw Installing Canada's Largest Rooftop Solar System at an Ontario Distribution Center
Jul 29, 2025 5:54 AM

08:18 AM EDT, 07/29/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Loblaw Companies ( LBLCF ) , Canada's No.1 grocery chain, on Tuesday said it will install what it said is the country's largest rooftop solar-power array on a distribution center near Toronto.

The company said it is installing solar panels covering 435,000 square feet on its East Gwillimbury Distribution Centre that will generate 7.5 megawatts of electricity, 25% of the facility's power consumption.

"From the moment we began construction on our East Gwillimbury Distribution Centre, we knew we needed to take full advantage of the rooftop space to generate clean, renewable energy for the facility. This solar installation will work alongside several other sustainable features at the DC, including fully-electric shunt trucks, and advanced building energy management systems," Tom Marson, Vice President, Building Technology & Energy, said in a release.

The company said the project will contribute to its plan reach net-zero Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions by 2040.

Loblaw ( LBLCF ) shares closed own $0.76 to $221.43 Monday on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
