04:19 AM EDT, 06/26/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Lockheed Martin ( LMT ) said late Tuesday an advanced weather satellite it built for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has launched from NASA's Kennedy Space Center.

The company said the GOES-U satellite deployed its solar panels to generate power and established communications with mission operators.

GOES-U is the last of four satellites in a network meant to provide weather imagery, atmospheric measurements and real-time mapping of lightning activity, the company said.
